  4. Humboldt Current 1947, and in 1969-70 used
  5. ancient-Egyptian-style papyrus reed boats to
  6. cross the Atlantic in attempt. His
  7. expeditions proved that ancient civilizations
  8. could have travelled the oceans in similar
  9. fashion. His voyages are described in Kon
  10. Tiki, translated 1950, and The Ra
  11. Expeditions, translated 1971. He also crossed
  12. the Persian Gulf 1977, written about in The
  13. Tigris Expedition, translated 1981.
